Nineteen years ago, Sonal Sharma's two-year-old daughter Gungun was diagnosed with blood cancer and treated for over two years at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS).
After the ordeal, Sharma's husband Anurag told her that at that stage they could simply go home and thank God for giving them their daughter back, or resolve to stay with other parents like them. The couple chose the latter option.
It was then that Sharma resolved to share the burden of other mothers, like her, in helping their children fight cancer.

WHOA: Taj Mahal to go 'Gold' this September ?
New Delhi: On the occasion of the 15th International Childhood Cancer Day observed every year on February 15, the Light it up Gold campaign, a unique campaign was launched at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences, New Delhi the country’s premier medical institution for teaching, research and patient care.
In this campaign, the cancer survivors collected 2,50,000 signatures to make Taj Mahal ‘Go Gold’ for childhood cancer. So, here’s what these survivors are planning to do. September is the childhood cancer awareness month and Gold is the color that represents childhood cancer. As children are precious and priceless like gold, the survivors plan to light up Taj in a unique way to celebrate the fighting spirit of cancer survivors and also to put to light the remarkable way in which they have come forward and fought cancer fearlessly.

Jipmer conducts tour for cancer stricken children
The Department of Medical Oncology,Jipmer today conducted a field trip for children with cancer to mark the International Childhood Cancer Day. The trip organized in association with JIVDAYA, CANKIDS and ROTARACT Club of veterinary college from RCC, JIPMER to Pondicherry Botanical Garden and Forest Department .
On this occasion Children will have a train trip, aquarium visit, drawing competition at Botanical Garden and a visit to Forest Department.The highlight of the Day trip is training for drawing by the Artists from Puducherry arranged by Mr Sundaravadivelu, MID Section, JIPMER, Puducherry. ROTARACT Club of veterinary college is one of the main donors will give the gifts and prizes to the children who are all participating in the drawing class and competition. Lunch and snacks were arranged by the CANKIDS and ROTARACT Club of veterinary college.
