The United Nations Special Rapporteur for Torture says, “The de facto denial of access to pain relief, if it causes severe pain and suffering, constitutes cruel, inhuman or degrading treatment or punishment.” Yet, more than 98% of the needy in India are denied access to pain relief and palliative care.
We,the patients, caregivers, activists and civil society ask policy makers, drug controllers, health providers, treating physicians and palliative care specialists for urgent and specific action to address this suffering in India. For the 10 million people in India estimated to have serious health related suffering, we aim to collect 100,000 pledges.
