June 5 is Cancer Survivors Day. In the month of June, we, childhood cancer survivors and members of KCK, want to spread the message to the world that kids with cancer can survive and thrive. Childhood cancer is curable. We have personally fought the battle and won and gone on to so amazing things! We know this couldn't have happened without support from CanKids, our parents, and society at large. This month we want to ensure Access2Care for 2000 kids with cancer to help them survive and thrive. For that, we're raising INR 1 Crore. So open your heart and make a donation today!

CanKids enables better standards of treatment and care by partnering with Cancer centers, assessing needs and filling gaps on an ongoing basis, through funding support, providing social support staff, enhancing capacities and driving quality care, research and impact assessment. Through stakeholder engagement and advocacy  we aim to ensure that Childhood Cancer is a child health priority in India. More information about our working model can be found here.

Stories From The Frontline

Spotted on TV, trudging towards the border from Delhi, Vishakha's story exemplifies CanKids commitment and the spirit of going above and beyond. Vishakha an osteosarcoma  patient and her parents were noticed on a TV channel by one of our survivor volunteers. Working overnight using multiple channels, they were identified, located, brought to the safety and security of our Home Away From Home and the next day were sent in an ambulance to their home in Pushkar!

The girl in the violet mask is Shreyashi, a six year old Blood Cancer patient who recently developed symptoms of Jaundice. To add to the mix, the hospital where her treatment was going on was declared as COVID hospital. The CanKids social worker made sure she is admitted in another hospital and her health shouldn't deteriorate. Shreyashi and her family are at our Home Away From Home now, safe and she continues her cancer treatment

COVID-19 Guidance for Children and Young People with Cancer undergoing Treatment

How might coronavirus affect my child who is undergoing cancer treatment?
Data currently seem to show that the infection is milder in children than in adults. However, children and young people undergoing cancer treatment have a weakened immune system which will make it harder for the body to fight off infections such as COVID-19.  It is important for children with cancer and their families to follow steps to protect themselves where possible.

What precautions should we take?
  • Wash your hands often - with soap and water for at least 20 seconds. Use an alcohol-based hand sanitiser that contains at least 60% alcohol if soap and water are not available. This is particularly important after taking public transport
  • Try to help your child avoid touching their eyes, nose, and mouth with unwashed hands where possible
  • Avoid close contact with people who are known to be unwell
  • Try and cover your child’s cough or sneeze with a tissue, then throw the tissue in a bin.
  • Clean and disinfect frequently touched objects and surfaces in the home and work environment

Help Kids With Cancer Win #HalfTheBattle Because We Believe #CanKidsCan!
Donate Now!

With our #HalfTheBattle #CanKidsCan campaign, we are partnering with GiveIndia to raise resources and funds to expand our proven model (We currently work with 121 cancer centres in 53 cities across 22 states touching the lives of over 26000 children annually!)  to reach places where hospitals, proper shelter and treatment are not available to provide #AccessToCare to even more children with cancer and their families.

We believe that there should be no reason for a kid with cancer to lead a different life from any other child. With our campaign #HalfTheBattle #CanKidsCan, we wish to create a cancer-free world for them and impact the lives of over 53,000 children with cancer in 2021. Your donations will give them diagnostics, proper medical support, a home away from home, emotional support and counselling.
