About Us

CanKids KidsCan - The National Society for Change for Childhood Cancer in India works across the entire spectrum of Childhood Cancer Care.

Through our signature program YANA - You Are Not Alone - we hold the hands of the child with cancer and family, and we partner with hospitals, medical professionals, and state governments to enable access and best standards of treatment, care and support.

What We Do

CanKids enables better standards of treatment and care by partnering with Cancer centers, assessing needs and filling gaps on an ongoing basis, through funding support, providing social support staff, enhancing capacities and driving quality care, research and impact assessment. Through stakeholder engagement and advocacy  we aim to ensure that Childhood Cancer is a child health priority in India. More information about our working model can be found here.

We are committed to children faced with cancer and their families, and aim to:
  • Ensure access to the best possible treatment, social and emotional support
  • Ensure continuity of care
  • Ensure the rights of the health impaired child to a childhood, to the highest standards of health, and to education
  • Ensure opportunities for reintegration into society

Our History

CanKids was founded in 2004 by cancer survivor and patient advocate Ms. Poonam Bagai, under the umbrella of the Indian Cancer Society, Delhi Branch, which then spun off in June 2012 and registered as an independent National Society. Today, we are a grassroots level organization of over 300 people (volunteers and employees)  CanKids is registered under the Indian Societies Act 1951, as a not for profit charitable organization, with valid 12A and 80G certificates. We have an FCRA Clearance Certificate which makes us eligible for foreign funding.
